Arteateliér

Arteateliér offers several forms of art therapy for people with mental health conditions. We use creative art as a means of exploring what a person is experiencing, their current situation, their emotions and the issues these raise. There is no need to be able to draw or to have any previous artistic experience. Art therapy is not about artistic achievement, and we do not evaluate the resulting artwork from this perspective.

How does art therapy work here?

Art therapy takes place in groups, but the creative work itself is individual. Each client works in their own way, at their own pace and according to their current abilities and needs. We use drawing, painting, collage and other art techniques. Sometimes we suggest a theme or a specific method of working; at other times, the client works on their own theme. The presence of others in the group is an important part of the studio environment, but each client has their own space for creativity and individual work with the art therapist. Depending on the situation, this may be followed by a sharing session or reflection on what was created during the session.

How do you sign up?

If you’re interested in any of our programmes, the first step is an introductory meeting with the art therapy manager.

During the meeting, we’ll get to know each other, discuss what you’re bringing to the programme, what you expect from it, and what your needs are. We’ll also introduce you to the options available at Arteateliér and, together, we’ll agree on which programme and attendance format will suit you best.

Alena Kocourková

/ Art therapist

She graduated from the Secondary School of Pedagogy, specialising in art education and psychology. She further expanded her education by taking a course in art therapy and artefiletics with Mirek Huptych, a basic course in psychiatry, and a course in fractal drawing. She is currently studying psychology at university and regularly takes part in further professional development. She is a member of the Czech Art Therapy Association.

Professionally, she has long been involved in art therapy and working with people with mental health conditions. She gained her experience primarily at the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital, but also in working with people with addictions. In her current practice, she focuses mainly on group art therapy with people with psychotic disorders.

She views artistic creation as a means of expressing and processing one’s own experiences and themes that are sometimes difficult to put into words. In her work, she emphasises respect for the individuality of each person, their potential and their own creative approach. She works under professional supervision.
