St. John's wort - stabilizing group

The psychotherapy group is designed for patients with schizophrenic illness or experience of psychosis who are newly discharged from hospital or who have gone through a so-called psychotic crisis.

The aim of the group is to support in coping with the psychotic experience, to understand it better, to prevent deterioration of the condition and to improve functioning in a fragile period.

"For many people, psychotic illness may present as an acute condition or also as a so-called psychotic crisis. A psychotic attack usually occurs suddenly, without warning, and can last for several days or even months if not treated. Usually, a person with psychotic symptoms is hospitalised at this stage. This is followed by a period of symptom resolution and recovery, i.e. a period of remission, which can last for years," explained group manager Mgr. Monika Vodová.

The group thus becomes a support for patients in the period after the acute phase or after hospitalization, especially when they return to normal life.

"Patients most often raise the topics of acceptance of the disease and its symptoms, but also the side effects of medication. They also have the space to share their experiences with the disease and the difficulties associated with the disease. In Třezalka we also focus on preventing the return of symptoms, helping patients to return to being among people and teaching them to listen to others, which is also very important," Monika Vodovárevealed.

The group is open for applications on an ongoing basis.
