St. John's wort - stabilizing group

The psychotherapy group is designed for patients with schizophrenia or a history of psychosis who have recently been discharged from hospital or who have experienced a so-called psychotic episode.

The aim of the group is to provide support in coming to terms with the psychotic experience, to gain a better understanding of it, to prevent a deterioration in the patient’s condition and to improve their functioning during this vulnerable period.

“For many people, psychotic illness can present as an acute condition or as a so-called psychotic crisis. A psychotic episode usually occurs suddenly, without warning, and can last for several days or even months if left untreated. Usually, at this stage, a person with psychotic symptoms is hospitalised. This is followed by a period of symptom remission and recovery – a period of remission that can last for years,” explained the manager, Mgr. Monika Vodová.

The group thus provides support to patients in the period following the acute phase or after hospitalisation, particularly as they return to normal life.

“Patients most often raise topics such as coming to terms with the illness and its symptoms, as well as the side effects of medication. They also have the opportunity to share their experiences of the illness and the difficulties associated with it. At Třezalka, we also focus on preventing the return of symptoms, helping patients reintegrate into society and teaching them to listen to others, which is also very important,” revealed Monika Vodová.

It is possible to join the group at any time.
